Creekside Curlies - Our Breeding Philosophy

QUALITY FIRST
Conformation is our most important issue, if a horse is to hold up well, he must have good conformation.

Second comes personality
We want a horse with a good disposition, easy to train, and a pleasure to be around.

Third is hypoallergenic qualities
Since we do not outcross here on the ranch ( due to husband's allergies ) --Buck is available for AI to outside mares of any breed. We have found that even our smooth coated foals have been hypoallergenic.

Fourth is traditional curly qualities
This includes the curly coat, hard feet, easy keeper qualities ( in a mature curly horse ) as some say The WHOLE enchalada !

About Our Ranch

We are located in North Central Idaho, on the edge of the great palouse, and Clearwater River, where Lewis and Clark spent many a day. We welcome visitors, with advance notice please. We ship horses anywhere!

Creekside Curlies was established in 1995 after the search for a hypoallergenic horse concluded that there are not many of these wonderful animals available for the general public. My husband, Mike is deathly allergic to horses and to reconnect with my childhood love, horses, we searched to find a quality curly horse that he could tolerate. The breeding farm was started so that we could produce horses that more allergic people could enjoy.
Our goal is to produce the finest curly horse we can, and we are not only breeders, we also train. All our horses are trained to the age appropriate level, and they are all given what we consider proper care, vaccinations, hoof care and worming. We are very strict with the quality of our horses and have made many changes is our original herd to make what we consider to be one of the finest (although not the largest) curly herds in the industry.

Our Curlies

In 2001 we added the curly sire *Skookum Buck ABC P 1668 (f) ICHO 15-D who has been a dream for our ranch. He is the third curly stallion I have owned, and by far the best. He is a dream to handle in the breeding shed, and produces many nice foals for us. I will be realizing another dream when I start dressage lessons on him this fall. I have shown Skookum Buck in western classes, and we have done quite well in the ABC frequent rider program.

Our bloodlines on our ranch are very diverse. We have mares from many different stallions, and they have all crossed well with Buck. Spartacus, Curly Clown, Joe's Birthday Colt, Ruby Red King, are just a few of the lines we have in our mares. Our foals will average 15HH-15.1HH. With the color factor involved, each and every foal born is a suprise waiting to happen. Buck throws many dun foals, most of them with curl, but all with outstanding quality.

My main goal for our breeding operation is to produce a horse that is considered quality in any venue, not just the curly world. I want owners of other breeds to take notice of these wonderful horses, and with our herd, we are accomplishing that goal.

We have horses for sale at all times, frequently start youngsters and get them on the market, and have an average of 3-5 foals per year. Check our website for our horses for sale, and a look around at our herd. "When it comes to Curlies, come to us !!!"
